For Dwyla

No, I am not back in Jamaica just yet. Still on vacation in America.

I am trying one of Blogger.com's new services, scheduled posting. It allows you to create a blog post, set a future date and have it automatically post on that date.

The lariat/belt and bracelet set was made for one of my sisters, Dwyla. We picked out the beads and gemstone chips to match a specific shade of blue on one of her dresses. Since she ocassionally visits here, I didn't want to post a picture of it until after I gave it to her.

The last time we were together, she asked me to make a belt for her. Little does she know she is getting a belt that can also be worn as a lariat necklace and she is getting the bracelet as brawta. (A little something extra)

The digital camera did not pick up the goldish glitters in the brown gemstones chips. The piece has much more sparkle than the camera could capture.

Voice From Jamaica To Be Silenced...

...but only for a short while.

We are going up to the States for a long-overdue family visit. I plan to get in nuff nuff hugs and kisses. There are four generations of folks we will be seeing, from both sides of the family tree.

And, what a tree it is! We have Jamaican, African-American, Caucasian-American, Iranian, Canadian, Japanese, Black British, Italian, Native American, Puerto Rican, and Scotch-Irish branches on our family tree. Our family reunions look like mini-United Nations conferences.

Please take this time while no new blogs are being posted to read thru the previous posts, link over to Free Rice to feed some hungry people and above all, keep Lady Roots in your prayers.

And, Sistren Irie Diva, I will be holding you to your promise of no rebound biznez! You are Jah's precious chile and much too valuable to waste.

Mi nah lef unno, mi jus tun mi back. Mi soon come!

Zion Bound

At 81, Cedella Booker Marley, mother of Bob Marley, made her journey from this created realm on Tuesday in Miami, Florida.

While many would say, "May your soul rest in peace", I pray that Mother Booker sing and dance for all eternity with the angels in Zion.

Thank you, Jah, for the life of this woman and for the gift of her son, Bob, whom she shared with the world.

RAW Druks

My comfort level with right angle weave (RAW) is increasing. The stitch path never felt right to me. But, just like riding a bicycle or swimming, even tho it starts out feeling odd and uncomfortable, if you keep at it, you will soon master the skill.

With mastery comes the increased comfort level.

This bracelet was created using varigated black and aqua 4MM druks. The original intent was for it to be done with only the aquas, but there weren't enough of them, so I added a row of black druks.

This was the first time I have used a monofiliment as a stringing medium. It is 6lb test and was so close in colour to the aqua druks that I gave it a try. Let's hope it wears well.

Good-Bye, Cousin W

I have not blogged since Monday because I have been playing "hostess" to family members that have come in from fahren (abroad).

It is what we call an A-B-C invasion. Folks in from America, Britain and Canada.

One of our cousins passed away and the family has gathered together once again. There were four generations of family represented.

As one of the younger second cousins noted, "How come we only get together when someone dies?" Sad, but true. We gather more frequently for family deaths than for any other reason.

Even my sanity-protecting beadwork has been put away until the household population goes back to just us two.

Cousin W, I hope you made your peace with Jah before you left this created realm. Zion is a holy place. No sin can enter there.
